In 1996, Miho Schoettker, IALD, MIES launched the privately-held SBE-certified Akali Lighting Design corroborating with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers, contractors, scientists, and educators. The firm specializes in ecologically responsible, architecturally sustainable, and healthy environmental lighting design for commercial, institutional, and residential projects. The firm provides lighting forensic investigations and expert testimonies.
Miho is a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers, IALD. The IALD is a group of the world's most prestigious and well-recognized lighting designers. The professional members must subscribe to the highest educational and ethical standards, in addition to meeting rigorous qualifications for membership.The professional members render lighting design services in exchange for compensation. The IALD recognizes procurement service as a conflicting interest and they prohibit it.
Miho is an adjunct professor who develops and teaches university-level architectural lighting classes emphasizing daylighting, artificial lighting, daylighting/artificial lighting integration, WELL-compliment design, and LEED-compliant design.
